CONS

  • It is a time-consuming process and requires more time than any other automotive welder to have your welding tasks done.
  • This welder is the most intricate and challenging to learn welding process. But if you think otherwise, you would agree that learning sophisticated and useful things requires time and effort. So this is not necessarily a con.

MIG Welder

MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas. It uses inert shielding gas along with a filler tool. So, you feed a long-end solid wire electrode heated through a MIG welding gun. The heat passed by the machine would melt both the metals that you want to fabricate and produce welds.

The inert gas would come alongside the wire electrode, so you need to use just one hand to work with a MIG welder machine. The gas coming along would protect the metals from getting contaminated.

Although it is not as sophisticated as a TIG welder, it is the most commonly used tool for repairing and fabricating automotive parts.

  • It Saves time, and you don’t need to waste your time changing electrode and gas restlessly
  • Both thick and thin metals can be welded by it. You can confidently use a MIG welder to work on light metals if it’s up to ¼ inches

  • Can produce weld on various types of metals. Steel, Stainless steel, aluminum, magnesium, nickel, and other metals can easily be welded by a MIG welder.

CONS

  • It is not preferred for thick metal due to its inability to minutely penetrate thicker metals.
  • Windy weather may have a destructive impact on produced welds. That’s why it’s not preferred to work outdoor with a MIG welder.

The Best Process for Automotive Welding

For intensive automotive welding, Stick/Arc welding is not an option. You have to choose between TIG and MIG. If you are a beginner in welding, you can go for MIG. It requires less time to learn and can be used to fabricate or repair any metallic part of an auto body, from chassis to muffler.
